As of September 1, 2025, a huge number of coins were in circulation in Ukraine – both kopecks and circulation coins of hryvnia denomination.

The National Bank of Ukraine informed “Pryamo” about this.

According to the NBU, there are about 15.04 billion coins in cash circulation in the country, the total monetary value of which is almost 8.78 billion hryvnias.

This includes coins of various denominations — both kopecks (from 10 to 50 kopecks) and hryvnia coins (1, 2, 5, and 10 UAH), which are gradually replacing banknotes in everyday circulation.

Although the exact weight depends on the denomination (since different coins have different weights — for example, 10 kopecks ≈ 1.5 g, and 10 UAH ≈ 6.4 g), the total weight of such coins can exceed 40 thousand tons. This is approximately the same as several thousand trucks loaded to the brim with coins.

As a reminder, information is spreading on social networks about the possible withdrawal of 50-kopeck coins from circulation . The National Bank of Ukraine denied these rumors and explained that there are currently no such plans.

As reported, in 2024, banknotes and coins worth a total of 114.7 billion hryvnias were put into circulation in Ukraine , and in 2024, a total of 79.3 billion hryvnias.
