Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there are currently no indications from the Russians that a trilateral meeting at the leadership level will take place.
He said this during a joint press conference with Ursula von der Leyen.
According to him, Russia is showing no signs that the meeting will take place, and if the Kremlin ultimately refuses to do so, sanctions must be tightened.
In addition, Zelensky stressed that negotiations on a settlement of the war in Ukraine could begin with a ceasefire along the entire front line.
“This means they can start where the front line is now. The contact line is the best line for talks. The Europeans support this,” the president assured.
He added that the Russian occupiers have not been able to completely occupy the Donetsk region for 12 years, and the Constitution of Ukraine makes it impossible to transfer territories to the Russian Federation.
As Zelensky noted, the issue of territories is so important that it can be discussed exclusively at the level of country leaders.
It was previously reported that Donald Trump plans to hold a trilateral meeting on Friday , August 22.
As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to participate in a trilateral meeting with the US and Russia . He plans to discuss the details of these talks with US leader Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, August 18.
