Ukraine, the United States, and Russia held another round of talks in Abu Dhabi to resolve the war. The parties made some progress on procedural issues, but key differences remain.
This is reported byRBC-Ukraine .
According to an informed source, the negotiations began with a short meeting in a broad format, after which the delegations continued their work in subgroups.
“However, there is progress on procedural issues. The main issue that was discussed on the military track is the procedure for disengagement of the parties – how this should technically happen. The issue of determining the terms and procedures for a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, monitoring, and how to create a Center that will monitor this was raised,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
At the same time, the most controversial issue in the negotiations remains control over the entire Donetsk region, on which the parties have not yet reached an agreed solution.
The source also reported that during the negotiations, Russian representatives did not raise the issue of changing the size of the Ukrainian army or limiting certain types of weapons. According to previous agreements, the next meeting is planned to be held in the near future in the same format.
At the same time, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities admit that Moscow may use the incident with the deputy head of the Russian GRU, General Vladimir Alekseev, as an excuse to delay the negotiations, disrupt them, or change the composition of the Russian delegation for security reasons.
As a reminder, the second day of negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which took place in Abu Dhabi, ended on February 5. Earlier, it became known that during the trilateral meeting, the delegations of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia agreed to exchange 314 prisoners.
As reported, negotiations between delegations in the United Arab Emirates have the potential to be more successful than previously predicted.
