“There is unlikely to be a pause in shelling”: Russia is increasing the production of missiles and drones

Russia continues to increase the production of missile weapons and strike drones and is preparing to maintain the intensity of attacks on Ukraine. According to the deputy head of the Defense Ministry’s GUR, Major General Vadim Skibitsky, the Russian Federation may reduce the number of missiles it uses per target, but a pause in the shelling is unlikely.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, in July Russia launched 153 cruise missiles and 198 ballistic and hypersonic missiles at Ukraine. The number of ballistic and hypersonic missiles used was the highest this year. Skibitsky noted that the increase in the intensity of missile strikes has been observed since April. Then the Russian Federation used 61 ballistic missiles, in May – 107, and in June – 134.

According to the GUR representative, Russia is also exceeding production plans for the main types of missiles. On average, the monthly plan is being fulfilled at the level of 110-120%. In particular, in July, the production plan for the Kh-101 was fulfilled by 140%, the Kalibr – by 111%, and the Kh-35 – by 200%.

As of August 3, the Russian Federation has already fulfilled its annual production plan for Zircons and modernized Onyxes. In 7 months, Russian enterprises have produced 33 Zircons and 60 Onyxes.

Separately, Russia is increasing the production of strike drones. The plan for August involves the production of 11 thousand UAVs of various types. At the same time, Moscow is reconfiguring production with an emphasis on the turbojet “Geran-4” and “Geran-5”. Skibitsky also reported that Russia has suspended the production of “Daggers” and Kh-32 since April. According to him, the fuel, funds and components that were used for these missiles have been redistributed to other types of weapons.

“Now almost everything comes off the assembly line for use,” said Skibitsky.

According to the GUR, as of August 5, the Russian Federation had about 130 9M723 missiles for the Iskander-M, while the planned production rate is 60 units per month. In July, the Russians produced 65 such missiles. The Russian Federation is also increasing production of the RM-48U, which is used to strike ground targets using S-400 launchers. The production plan for this missile for August is about 40 units, and the estimated stock is 400.

According to Skibitsky, the main targets of Russian strikes remain the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex, logistics, and critical infrastructure. The Russian Federation is also attacking energy facilities on which the operation of logistics and port infrastructure depends, and strikes on other elements of civilian infrastructure should, according to the GUR, cause panic and destabilization.

Skibitsky noted that Moscow is particularly interested in curbing the development of the Ukrainian defense industry, in particular the production of ballistic missiles, UAVs and FPV drones. At the same time, Russia is developing its own satellite system “Rassvet”, which Skibitsky called an analogue of Starlink. In March 2026, the Russian Federation launched 16 satellites into orbit, and further plans to create a constellation of 292 satellites in 2027 and 924 satellites in 2035.

According to the GUR assessment, Russia will also try to accumulate a missile reserve for the autumn-winter period. At the same time, Skibitsky stressed that the Russian Federation is unlikely to stop shelling.

“They will be able to reduce the number of missiles flying at one target, but they are unlikely to pause,” he said.

According to him, the further intensity of the strikes will depend primarily on the volume of Russian weapons production.

Recall that Russia continues to increase the production of drones and other aviation equipment against the backdrop of the war against Ukraine . In April of this year, the volume of aircraft production more than doubled compared to the same period last year.
