Ukraine is continuing to rebuild its energy infrastructure after Russian attacks, with plans to launch additional generation capacity in Kyiv, which is expected to help reduce the capital’s electricity shortage.
This was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
According to the official, the situation with electricity supply remains difficult due to damage to energy facilities as a result of the Russian attack on the night of February 7. Currently, energy workers are continuing restoration work.
“The situation with electricity supply remains difficult. Energy workers continue to restore facilities hit by Russia on the night of February 7. The damage is significant,” said Denys Shmyhal.
He noted that one of the solutions to stabilize the system is to launch additional generation capacities. The work is being carried out in accordance with the approved schedules.
“We are working on comprehensive solutions, in particular on the launch of additional generation capacities. The work is progressing according to the established schedules. In particular, today we expect the launch of an additional 9 MW of capacity in Kyiv,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The official also reported that Ukraine managed to record the largest daily volume of electricity imports, which helped maintain the power system after massive attacks and reduce the deficit.
He separately spoke about the supply of international aid for energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received 27 thousand tons of humanitarian aid, of which 25.1 thousand tons have already been transferred to the regions.
Over the past 2 weeks, 17 humanitarian cargoes from 11 partners from Switzerland, Slovakia, Denmark, Canada, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Germany, Austria, Lithuania and Italy have arrived at the warehouses of the Ministry of Energy hubs. During this period, 774 generators and 40 pieces of equipment, including block-modular boiler houses, cogeneration plants and boilers, have been transferred to the regions. Another 798 generators, 117 transformers and 120 boilers and cogeneration plants are also expected to arrive.
It was previously reported that temporary power outage schedules are being reintroduced in the capital of Ukraine amid a significant deficit in the power system.
