“There will be no quick results”: the Kremlin commented on the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi
Дмитро Пєсков
The Kremlin said that the trilateral talks on Ukraine will continue next week, but the exact date has not yet been determined. According to Dmitry Peskov, one should not expect quick agreements, as the agenda includes fundamental issues.
This is reported by Russian media.
The Kremlin reported that Vladimir Putin is in constant contact with Russian negotiators.
“The continuation of the negotiations in Abu Dhabi is scheduled for next week, there is no exact date yet,” Dmitry Peskov said.
The Kremlin positively assesses the very fact of the beginning of “constructive” contacts, but emphasizes that Moscow considers it wrong to publicly discuss individual provisions of the negotiations.
“We should not talk about individual provisions of the negotiation process regarding Ukraine, as this does not correspond to the real state of affairs,” Peskov said.
He also stated that it would be a mistake to count on high results from trilateral contacts, as a long and complex process lies ahead.
“It would be a mistake to count on any high effectiveness of the first contacts,” Peskov added.
At the same time, he admitted that it is difficult to talk about friendliness in negotiations, but if the process continues, the parties should try to achieve results.
“Friendliness is hardly possible in negotiations regarding Ukraine, but if they are going ahead, then we need to try to achieve something,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin also emphasized that Russia will not publicly discuss individual provisions of the negotiation agenda regarding Ukraine.
Peskov separately noted that the so-called “Anchorage formula” contains elements that are of fundamental importance to Russia, in particular the territorial issue, which the Russian side continues to defend.
“The territorial issue is of fundamental importance for us,” Peskov noted.
The trilateral negotiations involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which took place on January 23-24 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, concluded yesterday. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the negotiation process.
According to sources, during the negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, the United States and Russia in Abu Dhabi, the parties achieved greater progress on the military block of issues. At the same time, no agreements were reached on the territorial aspects .
The next round of trilateral talks involving the United States, Ukraine, and Russia will take place in Abu Dhabi on February 1. The parties will continue discussions after previous meetings, which the American side called productive.
