US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gaard Støre, stating that the world will not be safe without full and absolute US control over Greenland.

This is reported by PBS News journalist Nick Shifrin.

In the letter, Donald Trump linked his position to the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize. He stated that after this, he no longer felt obliged to think exclusively about peace, but focused on the interests of the United States of America.

“Given that your country has decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping 8 plus wars, I no longer feel obligated to think only about peace, although it will always prevail, but I can now think about what is good and right for the United States of America,” said Donald Trump.

Trump also said that Denmark, in his opinion, is unable to protect Greenland from threats from Russia and China. Separately, he questioned the historical basis of ownership of the island, stating that there is no written documentation of ownership.

“The world will not be safe until we gain complete and absolute control over Greenland,” said Donald Trump.

In addition, the US President emphasized the role of the United States in NATO activities, stating that he has done more for the Alliance than anyone else since its creation, and now expects action in return.

By the way, US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on imports of goods from eight European countries because of their position on Greenland . The tariffs will be in effect until an agreement is reached on the full purchase of the island and will increase to 25% from June 1.

Recall that Trump declared the strategic importance of Greenland for the security of the United States. Earlier it became known that the goal of annexing Greenland to the United States has moved from rhetoric to official policy of the country, as the White House began implementing an official plan to acquire the Arctic island from Denmark .

At the same time, the Danish Prime Minister appealed to Trump to stop statements about the possible seizure of Greenland . She emphasized that talks about the annexation of Greenland are baseless. As is known, against the background of statements by US President Donald Trump about the seizure of Greenland, the Danish authorities are sending military equipment and defense forces to the island .
