Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the Defense Forces of Ukraine are trying to seize the operational initiative at the front. According to him, for the first time since 2024, Ukrainian troops have regained control over a larger area of territory in a month than the enemy captured in the same period.

During a working meeting on the results of the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2026, Syrsky reported on the results of combat operations in various directions. According to him, Ukrainian troops are continuing the counter-offensive operation in the Oleksandrivka direction.
“For the first time since 2024, when we conducted the Kursk offensive operation, our troops regained control over a larger area of Ukrainian land in a month than the enemy captured in the same time,” said Oleksandr Syrsky.
According to him, units of the Airborne Assault Forces have regained control over 285.6 square kilometers of territory in this direction in a month. In total, since the start of the operation, Ukrainian forces have regained more than 400 square kilometers.
At the same time, in other directions, the Ukrainian military is holding back the enemy through active defense and in some places is moving forward. Syrsky noted that the Russian army has a numerical advantage of almost 3 times, but is forced to change plans due to the actions of Ukrainian forces.
“The Russian aggressor is almost three times more numerous, but given our active actions, is forced to postpone the dates of its planned operations, patch holes in its defenses, and transfer troops from other directions,” said Oleksandr Syrsky.
The commander-in-chief also reported on strikes on targets in Russia. According to him, 85 targets were hit by DeepStrike weapons in February.
Syrsky specifically mentioned the successful missile strike on the Votkinsk plant in Udmurtia, where Iskander-M and Oreshnik missiles are produced. He also noted that after the drone arsenals were destroyed, the Russian army used FPV drones 18 percent less often in February.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, in February, the missile forces carried out 228 strikes, and the Air Force aircraft carried out 104. In addition, Ukrainian drones performed 293.8 thousand special combat missions.
The meeting also considered issues of troop support, logistics, engineering and fortification works, restoring the combat capability of units, and the state of law and order in the troops.
“Not everything comes easy, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding back, building capabilities, analyzing mistakes and working to correct them,” said Oleksandr Syrsky.
He also reported that the trend in receiving international military assistance improved in February. At the same time, the main source of equipment receipt remains its repair and restoration by our own forces, which increased by almost a quarter in February compared to January.
According to the results of the evaluation of the commanders’ work, the highest rating in February went to the Commander of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Oleg Apostol.
It was previously reported that as of March 2, units of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had liberated nine settlements in the Oleksandrivka direction.
As is known, since the end of January 2026, Ukrainian units have regained control of 400 sq. km of territory and eight settlements in the South.
