In the Kyiv region, counterintelligence of the Security Service detained agents of Russian special services who were sending Ukrainian SIM cards for enemy drones to the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
A group of two people, one of whom turned out to be a former law enforcement officer, bought Ukrainian “SIM cards” and sent them to Russian regions.
They first sent parcels to associates in the European Union, who then sent them directly to the Russian Federation — to the cities of Naberezhnye Chelny and Yelabuga in Tatarstan, where factories producing attack drones are located.
The SBU explained that the presence of microchips in drones improved communication and their navigation.
In addition, the defendants were assigned another task – to recruit employees of mobile communication companies in order to obtain intelligence “from within” Ukrainian operators.
SBU investigators exposed enemy agents and detained them. During the searches, smartphones containing evidence of contacts with the FSB curator and foreign accomplices were seized.
The detainees were informed of suspicion of treason committed during martial law. They are in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Investigative actions are also ongoing to bring accomplices who are located in the EU to justice.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained an instructor major from one of the air brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , who turned out to be an agent of Russian intelligence. The suspect was preparing strikes on Ukrainian airfields where F-16, Mirage 2000 and Su-24 aircraft are based.
As a reminder, the SBU detained two Russian informants who were “leaking” information about the SOU positions near Sloviansk to the occupiers and spying on the echelons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
