“They think for themselves”: the GUR showed the characteristics of the modernized “Shahed”

The Main Intelligence Directorate showed the characteristics of the modernized Shahed-136 produced in Iran with a camera and artificial intelligence.
This is stated in the message of the GUR.
The GUR noted that a new Russian UAV was shot down in the Sumy direction in June 2025.
The material and structure of the UAV indicate that it is of Iranian manufacture. However, certain changes and improvements indicate joint work between the Russian Federation and Iran on the modernization of drones.
The updated Shahed-136 contains an Nvidia Jetson Orin minicomputer equipped for AI and video processing, as well as an infrared camera.
These modules receive information from the UAV and compare it with downloaded models to automatically target or select a target.
The GUR recalled that the Nvidia Jetson Orin was previously used by the Russians in the V2U strike UAV.
The Nasir satellite navigation system has also been improved, now it has eight channels.
In addition, the modernized UAV has a radio modem and a subsystem for video transmission, telemetry, or group control.
“This indicates that the exchange of technologies between Iran and the Russian Federation is bilateral, and the result of their cooperation may go far beyond the Russian-Ukrainian war if Iran uses the experience of Russian developments in its destabilizing actions in the Middle East,” the GUR added.
