On February 2, a car fell under the ice of the Kyiv Reservoir in the Kyiv region. One person died as a result of the incident, and the search for another man continues.
This was reported by Victoria Ruban, a spokeswoman for the Kyiv Region State Emergency Service, on Suspilny TV.
“The incident occurred on a reservoir near the village of Lebedivka. An UAZ car with two people in it fell under the water. Currently, 1 dead man is known. His body was found yesterday. They have been searching for another man for the second day,” Ruban said.
As is known, the relatives of the missing initially contacted the police. After that, the information was passed on to the rescuers. A video later appeared on social networks, which made it possible to roughly determine the location of the tragedy. Rescuers arrived at the reservoir on the morning of February 4 – around 8:30. At that time, the car was already covered with a thick layer of ice.
The search was complicated by weather conditions: rescuers had to actually cut large blocks of ice by hand. It was only on the afternoon of February 5 that the car was pulled out of the water. Inside, they found the body of a deceased man born in 1971. The search for the second man, born in 1987, is ongoing.
The spokeswoman reminded about the dangers of entertainment on ice. According to her, recently, videos of cars going out onto the ice of the Kyiv Sea to drift have been appearing more and more frequently on social networks.
She emphasized that even in severe frosts and seemingly thick ice, such trips remain extremely dangerous and can end in tragedy.
