Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine supposedly has no chance of winning a war against Russia, and that financial support from the European Union is “madness.” He also expressed confidence that the European Union is losing economically by helping Ukraine.
This is reported by Politico .
Orban said that continued financial support for Ukraine is harming the European Union. According to him, the EU is allegedly suffering economic losses due to the amount of funds allocated to Ukraine.
“We have already burned 185 billion euros, and… we are going to burn even more. In this way, we are financing a country that has no chance of winning the war,” Orban said.
The politician also accused European leaders of deliberately prolonging the war in order to obtain more favorable conditions for a possible peace agreement. In his opinion, such a strategy is mistaken.
“The situation and the time are more favorable for the Russians than for us. It should not continue; stop this as soon as possible,” Orban said.
The Hungarian Prime Minister expressed his expectation that a future settlement of the conflict could be based on agreements between Russia and the United States on issues of war, trade and energy. He called on European countries to create their own independent channel of communication with Russia and to hold parallel negotiations.
Describing a possible security system after the end of the war, Orban stated the need for a peace agreement that would include border stabilization and the creation of a demilitarized zone.
“This is reality, whether you like it or not,” Orban emphasized, commenting on the likelihood of Russia retaining control over the occupied Ukrainian territories after the end of the war.
By the way, the election campaign of the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the opposition leader Peter Magyar has effectively begun in Hungary. Both politicians outlined their approaches to the war in Ukraine and relations with the European Union, which are significantly different.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused Ukrainian intelligence of hacking into the personal smartphones of the country’s citizens through the opposition party “Tisa”.
We will remind that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban explained why he did not join the joint statement of the leaders of the European Union countries in support of Ukraine , and also called for a separate EU summit with Russia.
