In Poland, law enforcement officers have detained a man who threatened a Ukrainian saleswoman and made a Nazi gesture in a supermarket in the city of Gdynia. The attacker was charged with threats based on nationality and public propaganda for the Nazi regime.

This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar.

According to him, the incident occurred in a supermarket in Gdynia, where an aggressive man insulted a Ukrainian saleswoman, threatened her, and raised his hand in a Nazi salute. The diplomat thanked the Polish police for their prompt response and the quick arrest of the suspect.

Polish police confirmed the man was arrested within 24 hours of the incident and said the suspect had been formally charged.

“Thanks to the hard work of the officers of the Gdynia Srodmiescie police station, the criminal was arrested within 24 hours of the incident. At the police station, he was charged with unlawfully threatening a person because of their nationality and publicly promoting the Nazi regime,” the police said.

The video of the incident quickly spread on Polish social media. Most users expressed support for the victim. At the same time, there were isolated attempts to justify the attacker’s actions in the comments, but other users emphasized the inadmissibility of violence and threats against a defenseless employee because of her nationality.

The day before, it became known that the number of hate crimes against Ukrainians in Poland has sharply increased . Since the beginning of 2025, the number of such incidents has increased by almost half compared to last year.

We will remind you that in the Polish city of Wroclaw, a group of teenagers tricked a Ukrainian man into going on a “date”, where they mocked him and filmed it .

It was previously reported that Poland is unable to indefinitely accept new waves of Ukrainian refugees and should focus on adapting those already living on its territory.

By the way, Polish law enforcement officers reported the detention of two 17-year-old Ukrainians who painted red-and-black flags and left “Bandera slogans” at places of remembrance of the victims of the Volyn tragedy.
