Three times more effective than before: Ukraine expands special drone “kill zone” on the front

Ukraine is gradually expanding the so-called “kill zone” on the front, increasing the range of drone strikes on Russian military positions. Ukrainian UAVs are now capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 150 km, which is three times more than previous indicators.
This is reported by The Telegraph .
Journalists note that Ukraine has abandoned massive head-on battles with Russian troops and has chosen a technological approach to warfare. The basis of this strategy was the gradual expansion of the “kill zone”, which is aimed at preventing the advance of Russian troops on the front line.
In early 2026, Ukraine intensified its campaign using precision drones. The focus was on destroying Russian anti-drone systems to enable Ukrainian UAVs to operate deeper behind the front lines.
Thanks to these actions, the range of hitting targets increased to 150 km, while previously it was about 50 km.
According to journalists, Ukrainian drone operations have become more systematic and carefully planned to achieve specific goals. Such strikes are coordinated by the Deep Strike Control Center, a unit created in early 2026 by the Unmanned Systems Forces.
The campaign began with the deployment of Nemesis heavy bomber drones, which Russian sources refer to as “Baba Yaga.” They are used to target key Russian military systems.
In particular, the strikes targeted electronic warfare units, air defense systems, and equipment that allows Russia to attack or intercept drones. According to journalists, such actions create conditions for the more free use of Ukrainian UAVs.
The destruction of Russian air defense systems, including the Buk, Tor, and Pantsir-S1, has reportedly weakened Russia’s defenses in the occupied territories. This, according to journalists, has allowed for an increase in the number of lighter drones in the air, which were previously more vulnerable to electronic warfare.
At the same time, Russian Z-bloggers confirm that Ukraine’s efforts are yielding results, and attempts to displace Ukrainian drones from the air have not yet been successful.
Journalists note that Ukraine constantly analyzes battlefield data, including operational reports and electronic intelligence, to determine the effectiveness of various technologies and tactics. Based on this data, Ukrainian drones are adapted to the conditions of the modern battlefield.
Thus, the gradual expansion of the range of drones and systematic strikes on systems that protect Russian logistics are changing the configuration of combat operations, allowing Ukraine to avoid direct counter-battles.
The day before, Syrsky said that the war against Russia was entering a new stage , where unmanned systems and the increase in so-called “no-go zones” play a key role.
