In Japan, police detained three Ukrainian bloggers who illegally entered the exclusion zone near the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant and conducted a live broadcast from there. The Embassy of Ukraine in Japan condemned the incident and apologized to the Japanese for the actions of their compatriots.

This is reported by NHK .

The incident occurred on September 24 in the town of Okuma. Three men – 34-year-old Anatoliy Dybak, 29-year-old Vladislav Savinov, and 43-year-old Oleksandr Kryukov – run the “URBANIX” blog on Telegram and YouTube, where they shoot videos about abandoned locations. They entered an abandoned house in a zone of strict restrictions established after the 2011 accident and broadcast the process online.

Japanese police were alerted to the violation after an anonymous tip about a YouTube video. On the morning of September 24, law enforcement officers found three Ukrainians in the house and arrested them for trespassing. The investigation confirmed that all suspects pleaded guilty.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Japan called the citizens’ actions “unacceptable” and stressed that it was “deeply concerned” about the situation. The diplomats apologized to the Japanese, emphasizing that this incident should not overshadow the gratitude of the Ukrainian people for Japan’s friendship and assistance during the war.

Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan Serhiy Korsunsky also stated that he was “deeply shocked” by the act of his compatriots and apologized for this crime.

The Fukushima exclusion zone remains dangerous due to high levels of radiation even 14 years after the disaster, which occurred after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami destroyed the cooling systems of the reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in 2011. It was the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl.
