Three years left: Scientists issue alarming warning about global warming

In just three years, global warming could exceed 1.5°C, all because of carbon dioxide emissions.
According to the BBC , more than 60 of the world’s leading climate scientists have issued such a stern warning.
“Everything is moving in the wrong direction. We are seeing some unprecedented changes and we are seeing the Earth’s warming and sea level rise accelerating,” said lead author Professor Piers Forster, director of the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures at the University of Leeds.
To avoid some of the worst impacts of climate change, nearly 200 countries agreed in 2015 to try to limit global temperature increases. But countries continue to burn record amounts of coal, oil and gas and cut down carbon-rich forests, threatening the international goal.
“These changes have been predicted for some time and we can directly link them to very high emissions,” Leeds added.
In 2020, scientists calculated that the planet’s population could emit just 500 billion tons more carbon dioxide (CO2) — the most important planet-warming gas — to have a 50% chance of keeping warming to 1.5°C. However, by 2025, climate scientists had reduced that figure to 130 billion tons.
So if carbon emissions remain at their current peaks, that would give the planet about three years until that carbon budget runs out.
