Tied to a tree and beaten to death: five attackers detained in Kyiv

Kyiv police have detained five men who, following a conflict, brutally beat a 58-year-old man, tied him to a tree, and inflicted fatal injuries. After the crime, they tried to destroy evidence by deleting footage from surveillance cameras.

It is known that the Metropolitan Police received a report of the discovery of a man’s body on the riverbank on 6th Liniya Sadova Street. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found a 58-year-old man with no signs of life and numerous serious injuries.

During the investigation, it was established that a group of five men were involved in the murder. The day before, they had been resting near a coffee shop owned by one of the suspects in the case.

Later, a verbal conflict broke out between one of them and a passerby. After that, the men attacked the victim and began beating him with their hands, feet, and a wooden stick.

The attackers then forcibly dragged the man away from the cafe, tied him to a tree with a rope, and continued to beat him. Despite the victim’s repeated pleas to stop the abuse, they did not stop.

The man later managed to free himself and walk away from the scene of the attack. However, the attackers caught up with him and began beating him again.

The victim died at the scene from head and chest injuries.

Investigators from the Obolon Police Department, together with detectives and criminal analysis analysts, established that five men aged 18 to 34 were involved in the crime.

One of the suspects was detained in the Odessa region, where he was trying to hide.

Law enforcement officers also found out that after the murder, the suspects tried to destroy the memory cards from the surveillance cameras installed at the coffee shop in order to hide the traces of the crime.

All five men have been arrested and are currently in custody.

They were informed of suspicion under Part 12, Part 2, Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — premeditated murder committed by a group of persons in a prior conspiracy. The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to life imprisonment.
