“Time demands clear actions”: Shapovalov appointed commander of the Ground Forces

Brigadier General Gennady Shapovalov has been appointed the new Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In his address, he noted that leading the Land Forces in such a difficult period is a great honor and at the same time a serious responsibility.

Shapovalov also named his goals in the position:

• creation, training and replenishment of combat units and subdivisions of the Land Forces;
• improving the level of training of military personnel in the Land Forces;
• general development of the troops.

“Ready for open dialogue, initiatives, proposals, and constructive criticism. Time requires us to take clear actions, effective decisions, and maximum concentration on the main thing – strengthening the army, which today holds the country’s defense line,” Shapovalov said in his address.

What is known about General Shapovalov?

In 2019–2021, he commanded the 59th Yakov Handziuk Motorized Infantry Brigade.

In 2022, he received the rank of brigadier general and headed the Main Directorate of Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a member of the Commission for Coordination of Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.

In 2024, Shapovalov was appointed commander of the South Regional Command.
