“Time to end the war”: Zelenskyy named possible formats for peace talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during which the parties confirmed a common vision: it is time to end the war. They coordinated positions, agreed on joint actions with partners, and supported the idea of new negotiation formats, including a potential trilateral meeting involving Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

“I spoke with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Ukraine and Germany equally see the need to end the war as soon as possible with a dignified peace, and the parameters of the end of this war will determine the security conditions for Europe for decades,” Zelensky noted in his official address.
He also emphasized that the war is ongoing in Europe, and Ukraine is an integral part of it. That is why, according to the president, Europe must participate in all processes related to the future of peace.
During the talks, the parties agreed on further steps: today, the security advisers of Ukraine, Germany, European countries, and the United States will hold an online meeting to agree on common approaches to the settlement. In addition, Zelensky and Merz discussed possible formats for new meetings – two bilateral and one trilateral.
“Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same bold approach from the Russian side. It’s time to end the war. Thank you to everyone who is helping!” the president said.
It is worth adding that on the morning of August 7, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a series of telephone conversations with European leaders, including the German Chancellor and the presidents of France and Italy. The goal is to end the war and ensure Ukraine’s independence.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump informed European leaders of his intention to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as next week , and then to organize a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This could be the first direct dialogue of this format since the start of the full-scale war.
It is worth adding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that after a conversation with Donald Trump, Russia is demonstrating greater readiness for a ceasefire . At the same time, he warned that the Kremlin should not be allowed to deceive either Ukraine or the United States. The head of state also noted the successes of the Ukrainian army in Kursk, which forced Moscow to ask for help from the DPRK.
By the way, US President Donald Trump announced progress in negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine . According to him, his special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin, after which consultations with European allies began.
