The United States is seeking to eliminate Russian gas from Europe by waging an active diplomatic campaign to replace it with American liquefied natural gas, according to reports that Washington is using the phrase “to the last molecule” in its negotiations.

This is reported by the Financial Times .

U.S. officials have made a series of trips to European capitals urging partners to ditch Russian fuel in favor of American energy. The diplomatic activity is part of a broader U.S. strategy to cut off Moscow from a key source of revenue used to finance the war in Ukraine, according to journalists.

The article notes that Washington seeks to strengthen the US position as a leading exporter of liquefied natural gas. According to journalists, American officials are promoting the conclusion of long-term contracts for the supply of LNG from the US and other partner countries during the negotiations.

Journalists also report that these efforts have led to significant changes in the European energy market. The share of Russian gas in the European Union’s imports has decreased significantly compared to the period before 2022, while the United States has become the main supplier of liquefied natural gas.

The publication emphasizes that diplomatic activity has coincided with a number of commercial deals. In particular, it refers to attempts by oil trader Gunvor to acquire foreign subsidiaries of Russian oil company Lukoil.

According to journalists, the US Treasury Department has been closely monitoring these negotiations, which indicates Washington’s comprehensive approach to reducing Russian influence in the European energy sector.

As you know, the United States administration has lifted the restrictions on drilling in the Alaska National Petroleum Reserve that were introduced in 2024. The decision allows for the resumption of oil and gas production in the territory , which has been considered a strategic energy reserve for over a century.

By the way, the Ukrainian night attack on the port of Novorossiysk temporarily stopped about 2% of world oil exports . The attack was one of the largest on Russian oil export infrastructure in recent months.

It was previously reported that India has significantly reduced its imports of Russian oil after Washington imposed sanctions and tariff restrictions. This has already significantly affected energy exports from Russia and is creating additional pressure on Moscow.

Recall that Turkey’s largest oil refineries have started purchasing more non-Russian oil after the latest sanctions against Russia by the United States , the European Union and the United Kingdom. The new restrictions have affected the energy policy of Ankara, which is one of the key buyers of Russian raw materials.
