US President Donald Trump said he may inform Vladimir Putin about the possibility of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine if the war is not resolved soon. The supply of such weapons is being considered in response to Ukraine’s needs and was discussed in a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
He stated this while talking to journalists.
It is noted that Trump made this statement while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during a trip to Israel.
He said that he seeks to provide Ukraine with new batches of weapons at the request of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“They really need the Patriot. They would like to have the Tomahawk. This is a step forward,” Trump said.
The US President clarified that the issue of Tomahawk supplies was discussed during his conversation with Zelensky.
At the same time, Trump did not confirm that there was a final decision on the transfer of the missiles.
“Honestly, I should probably talk to Russia about the Tomahawk. Do they want the Tomahawks flying in their direction? I don’t think so. So I’ll probably talk to Russia about it,” he added.
In conclusion, Trump emphasized that if “the war doesn’t end,” the US “may” deliver Tomahawks to Ukraine.
In addition, the US president expressed his belief that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is interested in ending the war, as its continuation would have negative consequences for him.
“I think Putin would look great if he finished it. I think he will finish it. If he doesn’t, it won’t be good for him,” Trump said.
As is known, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump , which he called “good and very productive”, during which they discussed the possibility of transferring long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv.
By the way, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, reported that Ukraine and the United States are negotiating and “working to agree on all these details” regarding the possible provision of Tomahawk cruise missiles – there is no categorical refusal at the moment, but a detailed and active discussion about technical and organizational nuances is ongoing.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said that he has almost made a decision on transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. It is worth noting that the White House administration is concerned about whether it will be possible to control the use of such missiles after their transfer to allies and further to the Ukrainian side.
