President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a meeting with Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York, requested the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles, which, according to his estimates, could change the course of the war.

This is reported by The Telegraph; according to it, the request has already entered official discussions in Washington.

According to sources, Donald Trump praised the accuracy of the Tomahawks during the talks, recalling their use in strikes on Iranian targets. US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that the issue of supplies is being considered: “We are certainly considering a number of requests from the Europeans.” Under certain conditions, the supplies could be financed by European governments as part of an initiative with the participation of NATO.

US envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg noted that Kyiv may be allowed to use long-range weapons “in the rear”: “Take advantage of the opportunity to strike deep. There are no such things as sanctuaries,” the reports said.

“Tomahawk” is a subsonic cruise missile that can be launched from various carriers (submarines, ships, land and air platforms). Depending on the modification, the range can reach up to about 2,500 km; the carrier warhead is about 450 kg. The missiles fly at low altitudes, have obstacle avoidance systems and are designed to hit fortified targets – command posts, ammunition depots, production sites.

Analysts warn that the Tomahawks alone are unlikely to radically alter the strategic balance. Keir Giles of Chatham House notes that to truly shift the Kremlin’s calculations, strikes that pose a real threat to the regime in Russia are needed; everything else remains part of conventional warfare. Dr. Siddharth Kaushal of RUSI also emphasizes production limitations: the US currently produces an estimated 50–70 such missiles per year and has already expended a significant number of them in operations in the Middle East.

Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a closed conversation with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly , allegedly asked the US for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles.

As reported, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that discussions are ongoing in Washington regarding the possible supply of Tomahawk precision cruise missiles to Ukraine , but the final decision on this issue depends on President Donald Trump.

Moscow later announced that it was analyzing reports of possible supplies of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.

By the way, Special Representative Keith Kellogg clarified that his words about the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine do not reflect Washington’s internal decisions . According to him, he only referred to public statements, and the final decision can only be made by US President Donald Trump.

It should be noted that Ukraine has repeatedly asked the US to transfer long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles, but the White House has not yet given its consent.

In addition, the Kremlin is trying to scare Washington away from transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine , presenting it as a “dangerous escalation” and trying to influence the West’s position.
