Torture and human trafficking: a criminal group organized a slave “rehabilitation center” in the Kyiv region
In the Kyiv region, law enforcement officers have dismantled a criminal group that was forcibly detaining citizens and forcing them to work under the cover of a rehabilitation center. As a result of the special operation, 16 people were released, including a minor.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers have exposed a group that forcibly detained 58 citizens. According to law enforcement officers, the organizer of the criminal scheme was the head of a public organization, who involved the co-founder of the same organization and other participants in the activity.
The group included:
- co-founder of a public organization;
- 3 people who served as security guards;
- 9 more participants who helped ensure the operation of the scheme.
According to the investigation, the victims were beaten, intimidated, isolated from the outside world, administered potent drugs, and forced to perform hard physical labor. According to preliminary data, the profit of the defendants from the exploitation of people was about 1 million hryvnias per month.
During the special operation, law enforcement officers rescued 16 people. All victims are being provided with necessary assistance.
The organizer of the group and his accomplices have already been notified of suspicions of human trafficking and torture. Law enforcement officers emphasized that illegal activities under the guise of social projects will be stopped, and those involved must be held accountable.
