Torture and kidnapping: Ternopil court arrests six military personnel

A court in Ternopil has ordered the detention of six servicemen suspected of kidnapping, torture, and extortion. They were taken into custody at the request of police investigators.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Ternopil region.

According to the investigation, the suspects acted in an organized manner and were involved in several serious crimes at once.

“Police investigators have charged the defendants with suspicion under Part 2 of Article 127 (torture), Part 2 of Article 146 (illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping), Part 4 of Article 187 (robbery) and Part 2 of Article 289 (illegal seizure of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the report says.

The Ternopil Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Western Region is responsible for procedural management of the case.

According to preliminary data, the military was detained the day before. The investigation is establishing all the circumstances of the crime, including possible motives, the roles of each of the suspects, and the number of victims.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that a fatal traffic accident occurred near the village of Sukhyi Lyman, in the Odessa region. A truck ran over two servicemen who were near a mobile checkpoint . Both men died.

At the same time , military medics of the Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provided emergency assistance to a man who was injured in a road accident in London . After stabilizing his condition, the victim was taken to the hospital.
