Tortured a civilian and held her in inhumane conditions: police expose collaborator
Law enforcement officers reported in absentia suspicion to a former employee of the occupation police, who, together with Russian military personnel, tortured and sexually assaulted a resident of Novaya Kakhovka in the Kherson region.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, a 47-year-old resident of Nova Kakhovka held the position of the so-called “head of the isolation ward” during the occupation of the city, and later became the “acting commander of the commandant’s platoon” of the “Nova Kakhovka City Police Department” illegally created by the occupation authorities.
Investigators determined that in June 2022, the suspect, along with a group of Russian military personnel, came to search the home of a 56-year-old local resident. During the search, he hit the woman in the head with the butt of a pistol without explanation, after which she lost consciousness.
After that, the victim was detained and taken to the seized building of the SBU district administration, where she was tortured with electric shock for several hours.
According to police, wires were connected to her fingers and toes, earlobes, and breasts, which constitutes sexual violence. After the torture, the woman was illegally held in unsanitary conditions without proper food or a place to sleep until her release in September 2022.
“The figurehead acted purposefully and in coordination with the Russian military and aimed to obtain information about the victim’s possible cooperation with the Defense Forces of Ukraine,” said Igor Demyanyuk, head of the department for investigating crimes committed in the context of armed conflict, of the Kherson Region Police Investigation Department.
The occupation security officer is accused of cruel treatment of the civilian population and other violations of the laws and customs of war, committed in advance by a group of individuals.
The police noted that the man had already been charged in absentia. In addition, he had previously been sentenced to 15 years in prison for collaboration activities, and another indictment under other articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was also submitted to the court.
As a reminder, the military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office, collected evidence against a senior rifleman of the National Guard who, while in Russian captivity, abused other Ukrainian prisoners of war.
