The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the death of two orphans — a 4-year-old girl and an 11-month-old boy — in the Lviv Children’s Home.

As reported by the prosecutor’s office, this is a specialized unit of the Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Palliative Care for Children, where children deprived of parental care and with severe nervous system damage and mental disorders are housed.

At the end of September this year, a 4-year-old girl died in the institution. According to the medical report, the cause of death was congenital pathologies. Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – improper performance of duties to protect the life and health of children.

On the same day, an 11-month-old boy also died in the institution. As investigators found out, back in February 2025, the mother inflicted serious bodily injuries on the baby, as a result of which he received a craniocerebral injury, a contusion of the brain and a skull fracture. After the incident, the child was placed in the Children’s Home, and her mother was accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 121 and Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On October 14, the court granted the prosecutor’s office’s request for an additional forensic medical examination to clarify the cause of death. The issue of bringing new charges against the mother is being considered.

Earlier, lawyer Halyna Yanko and journalist Olha Vytak reported on social media that two residents died in one night at the Children’s Home on Antonovycha Street in Lviv. According to Yanko, the fact of the girl’s death was not promptly reported to the police, although there is a medical report confirming natural causes of death.

At the same time, the human rights activist asked why the boy, who suffered serious injuries, was in an orphanage and not under the supervision of doctors.

Journalist Olga Vytak also drew attention to the fact that the police were allegedly not informed about the deaths of the children, and a forensic medical examination was ordered for only one of them, while the other child, according to her, was buried without proper procedures.

Earlier, it was also reported about a tragic incident that happened to two children in the Kharkiv region . In the Kupyansky district, two boys, 11 and 12 years old, were seriously injured due to the explosion of a dangerous object.
