Tragedy in the Netherlands: two Ukrainians drown in a lake
In the Netherlands, two Ukrainians, ages 15 and 20, drowned in Lake Sandenplaas in the town of Nynspeth, Gelderland province. Rescuers pulled the boys out of the water and took them to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save them.
This is reported by RTL Nieuws.
The tragedy occurred on August 12. Around noon, eyewitnesses noticed that two swimmers had disappeared underwater and did not surface for a long time.
Divers, rescue boats, ambulance crews, and medical and police helicopters arrived at the scene. The boys spent about 45 minutes underwater.
Rescuers found both and took them to the hospital. The police announced the deaths of the 15-year-old boy and the 20-year-old man that same evening.
Both of the deceased were Ukrainians. They lived with a Ukrainian foster family, who moved to the Netherlands after the start of the full-scale war in 2022 and settled in Nynspeth.
Local authorities said they are providing the family with the necessary support. Law enforcement is currently treating the boys’ deaths as an accident.
