A 20-year-old Ukrainian citizen was among the victims of a large-scale train accident that occurred on October 13 in Slovakia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported on the victim, specifying that the boy is currently in a local hospital, where he is receiving medical care, writes hromadske .

The Embassy of Ukraine maintains constant contact with his mother.

The accident occurred at around 10:00 near the village of Jablonov nad Turnou, where two tracks merge into one. At the time of the collision, there were about 100 passengers on board the trains. The powerful impact caused one of the trains to derail, causing significant damage and numerous injuries.

According to rescuers, as of 6:00 p.m., 69 people were injured, including 7 in serious condition and 14 in moderate condition. A pregnant woman was also injured. There were no fatalities, according to preliminary data.

The causes of the accident are currently being determined. Slovak Interior Minister Matus Sutai Estok said that the tragedy could have been caused by a human factor , as one of the drivers probably failed to give way to another train.
