Ukraine is completing testing of a new laser complex “Trident”. It was created to combat Russian drones – from FPV drones to Shahed strike drones. The developers say that the system is already capable of working on targets at a distance of up to 5 kilometers.

Militarny reports this with reference to the Ukrainian company Celebra Tech, which is developing the complex.

According to the developers, “Trident” is currently undergoing final tests and is preparing for a public presentation.

The company notes that the complex can destroy reconnaissance drones at a distance of up to 1,500 meters, and FPV drones at a distance of about 800–900 meters.

At the same time, the main feature of the system is called the ability to combat long-range strike drones.

“Today, the Trident is practically capable of hitting targets at a distance of 5 km – this will allow it to effectively shoot down Shahed-type UAVs,” Celebra Tech reported.

The developers explain that during the modernization, artificial intelligence was integrated into the system for additional guidance, automatic target acquisition and tracking, as well as synchronization with radars for more accurate tracking of enemy objects.

In addition to combating drones, the complex is planned to be used to protect critical infrastructure and strategic enterprises. The laser can also assist in mine clearance.

The “Trident” is mounted on a mobile platform, which allows it to be quickly moved to dangerous areas.

The Ukrainian laser complex was first publicly announced at the end of 2024. And already in April 2025, the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine showed the first footage of its operation during testing.

Recall that Ukraine has created a laser air defense system – it counteracts Russian air targets that attack populated areas.

As reported, the Ukrainian company Fulltime Robotics is creating a portable SlimBeam laser to combat enemy FPV drones.
