The United States is considering limited ground operations against Iran, but there is no final decision on sending troops. American forces are already increasing their presence in the Middle East and preparing for a possible escalation of the conflict.

This is reported by The Washington Post .

According to journalists, the Pentagon is working on scenarios for short-term ground operations that involve targeted strikes and raids on strategic targets. This is not a full-scale invasion, but a limited use of force.

Possible targets include important sites, including oil terminals and military bases on the coast. One of the targets being considered is Kharg Island, a key center for Iranian oil exports.

The plans call for the use of mobile units, including marines and special forces, that can quickly complete tasks and leave the territory. This approach is explained by the high risks associated with Iran’s capabilities to wage asymmetric warfare.

At the same time, the US is increasing its military presence in the region. Thousands of troops have already been sent to the Middle East, including units of the Marine Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division.

The White House emphasizes that the main emphasis is currently on air strikes, economic pressure, and diplomacy, but military scenarios are being worked out in case of escalation.

“This is not about a protracted ground war,” said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

At the same time, as journalists note, the preparation of such plans indicates the seriousness of the situation and the possibility of further escalation of the conflict.

By the way, Iran rejected a United States proposal with potential conditions to end the war in the Middle East.

Earlier, Trump said that the US and Iran had held talks, following which he ordered a five-day halt to strikes . Later, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reported that there had been no direct talks with the US , and Trump had not abandoned his military plans.

As a reminder, on February 28, the United States launched a military campaign in Iran . As US Vice President J.D. Vance said, the main goal of the United States in relation to Iran is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons .
