Truce or continuation of the war: what Lukashenko and US special representative Kellogg really said
During a meeting with the US special representative for the war in Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that he had conveyed to Washington the Kremlin’s position on the possibility of a ceasefire and a cessation of attacks on Russian cities.
This was reported by the Belarusian agency “Belta”, citing the words of Lukashenko.
According to him, the negotiations raised the issue of a ceasefire, including in the air. Lukashenko stressed that this topic is not new and has been discussed with Vladimir Putin on several occasions. The Russian President is said to be not against stopping the attacks, but on condition that Ukraine and its allies stop striking Russian territory. Lukashenko also mentioned the constant attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian cities.
“I conveyed this position to the American side and heard that they are ready to work in this direction,” the publication quotes him as saying. At the same time, the Belarusian leader expressed doubt about the sincerity of the West, stating that he does not believe in their desire to truly stop the war.
In turn, Keith Kellogg responded by denying Lukashenko’s statements, posting a comment on the social network X. He assured that he had never promised to limit the strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Russian Federation and emphasized that his conversation with Lukashenko concerned only a complete and unconditional ceasefire. Kellogg explained that any agreements on restrictions from Ukraine are possible only on the condition of reciprocal actions from Russia.
As a reminder, the US President’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, rejected Russia’s accusations that Washington and Kyiv are allegedly delaying peace talks.
As reported, journalist and political commentator Yulia Zabelina said that Keith Kellogg, Donald Trump’s special representative, could resign in a few weeks.
