Trump administration begins inspection of US biolabs abroad, including in Ukraine

The Trump administration has begun an investigation into more than 120 biological laboratories abroad that have been funded by American taxpayers for years, including more than 40 in Ukraine.

This was reported by the New York Post, citing a statement by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

According to her, the team is checking exactly where these laboratories are located, what pathogens are stored there, and what research was conducted there.

Gabbard said the goal of the review is to stop dangerous experiments with viruses, including so-called research that could increase the infectiousness of pathogens.

She also mentioned the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that it showed how dangerous research in biolabs can be.

According to US intelligence, the laboratories operate in more than 30 countries around the world. Some of them were funded through the Pentagon’s “Cooperative Threat Reduction” program, which after the end of the Cold War aimed to reduce the risks associated with weapons of mass destruction.

The US notes that more than 40 laboratories in Ukraine may be at risk due to a full-scale war with Russia.

At the same time, the Trump administration emphasizes that the research was officially aimed at studying pathogens, preventing new disease outbreaks, and enhancing biosecurity.

At the same time, critics claim weak control over the financing of such projects and insufficient transparency in conducting potentially dangerous experiments.
