Trump administration considering lifting energy sanctions against Russia

The Donald Trump administration has been at odds over the possible lifting of restrictions on Russia’s energy sector.

US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff supports lifting sanctions, believing that this will open up new opportunities for American investors in Europe. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum advocates maintaining pressure to weaken Moscow’s position in the EU market and increase US energy exports.
According to Politico, Russia is already in talks with Washington to restart Nord Stream, offering American companies access to energy projects. This has raised concerns in the EU, which says Trump and Putin are “trying to carve up the European energy market.”
The day before, US President Donald Trump held a conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The conversation lasted almost an hour. Kremlin media write that Trump raised the issue of ending the war as soon as possible. Putin noted that the Russian Federation will not retreat and will continue to eliminate the so-called root causes of the war.
Commenting on these negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the opinion that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin do not have many topics for discussion . At the same time, Zelensky had previously announced a conversation with the US President . The head of state also noted that negotiations with Putin himself are necessary to achieve peace.
