Donald Trump’s administration has terminated the activities of an interagency group that was developing a strategy to pressure Russia to promote a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine.

This is reported by Reuters .

It is noted that the working group was created in the spring under the auspices of the US National Security Council. It included representatives from the State Department, the Treasury Department, the Pentagon, intelligence agencies, and key analysts on Russia issues.

It was supposed to develop concrete measures, from diplomatic pressure to economic restrictions on Moscow. However, in May, after the removal of the group’s coordinator, Andrew Peake, the initiative lost momentum.

The publication’s sources in the White House note that Trump himself has shown less and less interest in a tough policy towards the Kremlin.

The group was finally liquidated about three weeks ago after a reshuffle at the National Security Council. Most members of the team responsible for Ukraine policy were dismissed.

Although Trump has repeatedly stated that he will “end the war in Ukraine on the first day of his presidency,” he has recently made it clear that the United States may gradually reduce its mediation role. Journalists claim that the US president probably paid no attention to either the creation or liquidation of the group.

The group’s work remained at the stage of preliminary developments, including discussions on restrictions on supplies to Russia from Eastern European and Asian countries. Its activities were not synchronized with the sanctions policy of Congress.

By the way, the administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw from the international group investigating responsibility for the Russian invasion of Ukraine . This is the International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, which operates within the framework of the European Criminal Justice Agency (Eurojust).

Recall that on February 21, it became known that the United States of America may stop international efforts to prosecute Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
