The administration of current US President Donald Trump has warned the Ukrainian government that its strikes on a Russian oil facility in the Black Sea late last year have affected American investments in Kazakhstan.

This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States.

“We heard that the Ukrainian attacks on Novorossiysk have affected some American investments that are made through Kazakhstan. And we received a signal from the US State Department that we should refrain from, well, attacks on American interests,” Ambassador Olga Stefanishyna said at a briefing.

She clarified that she had received a demarche — an official diplomatic remark — from the US State Department on this issue. CNN has reached out to the State Department for comment.

The Ukrainian ambassador emphasized that the US did not suggest that Kyiv refrain from striking Russian military and energy infrastructure.

“It was about the fact that American economic interests were affected there,” she said.

“We took this into account,” Stefanishyna concluded.

As a reminder, on the night of November 14, 2025, the Ukrainian Defense Forces used missiles and drones to strike a number of facilities on the territory of Russia. In particular, the Russian ship base “Novorossiysk” in the Krasnodar Territory was hit.
