Elon Musk has promised to create a new political force if the Republican Party passes its tax and spending bill.
The New York Times reports this.
The billionaire has sharply ramped up his anti-Republican rhetoric in recent days, saying that if the “crazy bill” passes, he will create an “American Party” the next day to give voters an alternative to Democrats and Republicans.
“Our country needs an alternative so that people can actually have a voice,” Musk wrote on social media site X on June 30.
He also promised to support Congressman Thomas Massie, one of the opponents of Trump’s bill, and to fund candidates who will run against many Republicans in the primaries.
While the GOP has wrangled over the details of the bill, most Republican lawmakers support it in various forms. The bill would cut taxes for individuals and businesses, increase defense and border spending, but it includes plans to cut funding for social programs, including Medicaid and green energy incentives.
That same evening, Musk, who has donated about $300 million to Republican candidates in the 2024 elections, threatened that almost every Republican in Congress would “lose the primary if this is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
In response to Musk’s accusations, Trump recalled the government subsidies that the billionaire’s business enjoyed, noting that “perhaps the time for these benefits is running out.”
Musk has previously sharply criticized Trump’s bill, stressing that its adoption could cause serious damage to the US economy.
Recall that US President Donald Trump is “losing patience” with billionaire Elon Musk due to his criticism of the tax and appropriations bill.
Former adviser to US President Trump Elon Musk has reportedly called the new domestic policy bill an “abomination.”
In addition, the administration of US President Donald Trump is trying to force Senator Lindsey Graham to significantly weaken the new bill on sanctions against Russia.
By the way, the US Senate has postponed the introduction of tougher sanctions against Russia until at least July. The reason for the delay is the conflict between Iran and Israel.
