Trump and Zelensky agreed to meet: Axios revealed the US president’s main request

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump have agreed to meet in New York. At the same time, new details of their phone conversation have emerged in the media – Trump allegedly repeatedly asked to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries due to the situation with diesel fuel.
The meeting was announced by the Office of the President of Ukraine, and the details of the telephone conversation were revealed by Axios, citing an informed source.
After the conversation, Zelenskyy said that the presidents agreed to meet in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“An important conversation, and we managed to discuss many things. We agreed on a meeting in New York, and this meeting can change a lot. There is a diplomatic dynamic,” the President of Ukraine noted.
According to Axios, the meeting is expected to take place on Tuesday, September 22. No specific date has been officially announced for the meeting.
At the same time, an Axios source familiar with the content of the telephone conversation claims that a significant part of it was devoted to the topic of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries.
According to him, Trump has repeatedly asked Zelensky to stop such attacks , arguing that strikes on Russian refineries contribute to rising global diesel prices.
The source of the publication noted that the word “diesel” was used many times during the conversation. The Ukrainian President’s Office has not publicly confirmed this part of the conversation.
Zelensky’s official statement says that the presidents discussed the diplomatic process, possible steps for de-escalation, as well as issues of energy, food security, and human protection.
The President of Ukraine also thanked Trump for signing the Lindsey Graham Act on sanctions against Russia and Iran.
Recall that earlier Donald Trump had already called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries , linking them to problems in the global diesel fuel market.
Before that, Zelensky spoke about the expected meeting with Trump on September 20th and stated that he planned to raise the issue of countering Russian ballistic missiles.
In addition, Trump recently signed a law on sanctions against Russia and Iran , which, in particular, allows for the imposition of tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil and gas.
