US President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, after which he announced a plan for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The head of the White House stated this at a press conference.

Trump presented a number of initiatives, including: the return of hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023, within 72 hours of a ceasefire; the delivery of humanitarian aid and the restoration of critical infrastructure; and the prohibition of Hamas’s participation in the restoration of Gaza’s administrative institutions. According to the plan, military infrastructure and militant tunnels in the region should be destroyed, and the Strip itself should become a demilitarized and “deradicalized” zone.

“We must immediately and quickly demilitarize Gaza. To do this, we need the consent of Hamas. The Arab and Muslim communities must deal with Hamas. The Muslim countries in the Middle East must stop Hamas,” Trump said.

He said the US and its partners would establish a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) that would work in cooperation with Israel, Egypt and Jordan to train Palestinian police and coordinate de-escalation mechanisms.

“Israel will not occupy Gaza. The Israeli army will hand over the territory of the Gaza Strip to the International Stabilization Force,” Trump emphasized.

The president also clarified that in the case of reforms, Palestine will have a chance at sovereignty and statehood. At the same time, he warned that if Hamas refuses to support the agreement, Israel’s military operation in Gaza will continue.

“If Hamas rejects the deal, which is always possible, then they will be left alone. Everyone else has accepted it, but I have a feeling that we will get a positive response. But if not, then Israel will have to do everything to eliminate the danger. This danger is caused by Hamas. The tyranny of terror must end,” Donald Trump stressed.

Separately, he announced that the World Bank and other partners would be responsible for forming an interim government for Gaza.

“The World Bank and others will be responsible for recruiting and training a new government that will be made up of Palestinians as well as highly qualified experts from around the world. Many want to join. We will name some of the participants soon. We will educate and train Palestinians so that they can govern,” the president said.

“All we want is peace. Peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” Trump concluded.

On September 16, it became known that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had launched a large-scale ground operation to establish full control over Gaza City . At the same time, despite support from Washington, analysts warned that such an offensive could lead to significant losses among the military and pose a serious threat to the lives of Israeli hostages held by the Hamas group.

As we will recall, on September 9 , Israel launched an airstrike on the capital of Qatar – Doha , where the leadership of the terrorist organization Hamas was located. The attack took place during a meeting of the group’s leaders, who were discussing the latest US proposal for a ceasefire. According to official data, the target of the strike were high-ranking Hamas representatives, but information about the number of dead and injured remains controversial.
