US President Donald Trump said he plans to speak with Vladimir Putin soon about a possible case of pneumonic plague in Russia following the death of an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute.

According to Trump, the conversation with Putin should take place “very soon.”
When asked what information American intelligence services have about the incident, the US president said that detailed discussions are currently underway.
“We are having very substantial discussions right now. We will be able to announce it probably tomorrow,” Trump said.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they are aware of a possible case of pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region, which resulted in death, but the circumstances of the incident have not yet been confirmed.
The CDC stressed that there is currently no indication of a broader threat to the U.S. The agency continues to monitor the situation.
The World Health Organization also assesses the risk to the population as low. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the organization has requested additional information from the Russian side about the case of severe pneumonia to establish the cause of the disease and the pathogen.
This is the death of Daria Shipilova, an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute. According to media reports, she was hospitalized with severe pneumonia in late September and died a few days later.
It has not been officially confirmed that the cause of death was the plague. The Russian side stated that it was “pneumonia of unknown etiology.”
Recall that earlier in Russia, there were reports of a possible outbreak of plague after the death of an employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute . At the same time, Rospotrebnadzor stated that the plague pathogen was not found in the deceased’s biomaterials.
