US President Donald Trump plans to significantly increase tariffs on goods from India due to its active trade in Russian oil.

He wrote about this on the social network Truth Social.

Trump said that India buys huge amounts of Russian oil, but also sells a significant portion of the oil it purchases from Russia on the world market, for which it receives huge profits.

“They don’t care how many people in Ukraine die at the hands of the Russian military machine. Given this, I will significantly increase the duties that India pays to the United States,” he said.

It should be noted that India was the world’s largest buyer of oil from Russia. It bought oil at a discount. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, India has increased its purchases from zero to about a third of total imports.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs for India : from August 1, the country will have to pay 25%. He explained that India buys most of its military equipment from Russia and, together with China, is one of the largest consumers of Russian energy.

It is worth adding that Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India will be able to meet its oil needs from alternative sources if Russian supplies are cut off by US sanctions.

By the way, India purchased 7 million barrels of oil from the United States, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates after suspending purchases of Russian raw materials .
