US President Donald Trump has said that Cuba is a “failed state” and expressed his desire for the country to be “well-governed” in the future.

Reuters reports this.

Answering journalists’ questions about the situation in Cuba, Trump noted that, in his opinion, the country is actually in a state of collapse.

“It’s like it’s already fallen apart,” he said.

The American president also stated that Cuba has significant tourism potential.

“You could build beautiful resorts there. We’ll do that as soon as we’re done with the war with Iran. I like to do one thing at a time,” Trump said.

His comments came after the US imposed new sanctions on Cuban officials. At the same time, Trump denied that the restrictions were aimed at hastening the collapse of the state.

“We just want it to be a well-governed country,” he said, adding that Cuba, he said, “is starving and has no resources.”

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump previously stated that Washington supports the Cuban people and is participating in the “liberation” of Cuba.

As reported, the US military has significantly increased the number of reconnaissance flights near the coast of Cuba . According to journalists, since February 2026, the US has conducted at least 25 flights using aircraft and drones.

It should be noted that Cuba, according to American media, is considering the possibility of using the acquired drones for potential attacks on US facilities . This could be a factor in escalating tensions between the countries against the backdrop of military and intelligence data.
