US President Donald Trump said he expects to reach a peace deal with Iran as early as next week.
The American leader stated this in a comment to ABC News.
We are talking about agreements to extend the ceasefire and unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
“I think it will happen within the next week,” Trump said, answering a question about the timing of the possible signing of the memorandum of understanding.
He also acknowledged that the negotiations are difficult due to the tense relations between the parties.
“It’s not an easy thing. It’s a really big country… there’s a lot of hostility there. So it’s not easy for them. In fact, from our perspective, it’s not easy either. But we’re getting what we need,” the US president said.
Trump said a potential peace deal with Iran could have a greater impact than a military solution to the conflict, adding that there are still some issues that need to be agreed upon, so there is no final solution yet.
Recall, US President Donald Trump said that Washington is ready to lift the naval blockade of Iran after Tehran fulfills 4 key conditions . Among the US demands are the abandonment of nuclear weapons, demining of the water area and the destruction of enriched uranium stocks.
As reported, US and Iranian negotiators agreed on a draft 60-day memorandum to extend the ceasefire and begin negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
