US President Donald Trump has said that direct peace talks between the US and Iran will soon take place in the Pakistani capital.
This was reported by The New York Post.
“It’s actually going to happen very soon,” Trump said.
A team led by Vice President J.D. Vance will travel to Islamabad from the American side. Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will also participate.
“We’ll have Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, JD – maybe JD, I don’t know. There are security issues,” the US president noted.
According to White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt, the first round of talks will take place on Saturday morning local time.
Earlier, Iran confirmed the achievement of a two-week ceasefire with the US and stated its readiness to open the Strait of Hormuz for this period.
As a reminder, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga welcomed the agreements between the US and Iran.
However, within hours of the ceasefire announcement, a number of Middle Eastern countries came under fire . Iran announced an attack by the US and Israel on an oil refinery located on Laban Island, and Tehran responded by striking five of its neighbors.
