US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to significantly increase duties on imports from India due to its cooperation with Russia in the energy sector.
He announced this on Tuesday in an interview with CNBC.
“India is the country with the highest tariffs. We’ve already agreed on 25%, but I think I’m going to increase that substantially in the next 24 hours because they’re buying Russian oil,” Trump said.
The White House chief also criticized India as an unreliable trading partner and said its energy cooperation with Russia effectively supports the Kremlin’s war economy.
“By buying oil, India is fueling the Russian trading machine,” the US president added.
This statement was made against the backdrop of growing pressure from Washington on countries that continue economic ties with Russia despite the full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
By the way, US President Donald Trump said that he is no longer interested in meeting with Russian dictator Putin.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a new deadline for the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin, during which a ceasefire must be reached in Ukraine . The new ultimatum period was 10-12 days.
Recall that on July 28, US President Donald Trump said he planned to shorten the time Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had given for a ceasefire in Ukraine. The day before, Donald Trump’s administration announced that it would impose secondary sanctions and tariffs against Russia if a ceasefire was not reached in Ukraine within 50 days.
