Brazilian Senator Flaviu Bolsonaro has left the country with his wife and two daughters after losing the presidential election. The family left via Argentina, from where they flew to Ecuador by private jet. According to media reports, the politician plans to seek political asylum in the United States.

This was reported by The Guardian, citing Brazilian media and information from the Argentine authorities.

According to Argentina’s migration service, Bolsonaro and his family crossed the border via the Tancredo Neves Bridge on the evening of October 27. All four had valid travel documents.

They later boarded a private plane, which, according to the submitted flight plan, was headed to the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador.

At the same time, sources from the Brazilian publication Metrópoles claim that the final destination of Bolsonaro’s trip should be the United States, where he plans to apply for political asylum.

According to The Guardian, the US State Department has announced its readiness to grant entry visas to Bolsonaro and his family.

How did Brazil react?

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticized his former rival’s decision to leave the country after the election, calling it shameful.

Deputies from the Workers’ Party, represented by Lula, have asked the Supreme Court to issue an arrest warrant for Bolsonaro and initiate an international search for him through Interpol.

According to Brazilian media, a court had previously ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his passports as part of a criminal investigation into alleged money laundering. The politician failed to comply with the request within the stipulated time.

Recall that Trump previously called the presidential elections in Brazil rigged . At the same time, Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party officially recognized the results of the vote.
