US President Donald Trump called CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s trip to Moscow “semi-routine,” but at the same time stated that some progress could be made as a result.

Forbes writes about this.

Trump said the United States is “working very hard” to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, and Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow could potentially yield results.

“Something could come out of this,” the American president said.

At the same time, when asked about the purpose of the CIA chief’s trip to Russia, Trump repeated that Ratcliffe was there in “semi-root mode” and did not reveal more details.

According to Politico , during his visit, Ratcliffe warned Russian leaders against further escalation against US NATO allies, particularly Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Also, according to the publication, the CIA director pressured Moscow to reduce military and economic support for Iran.

Thus, despite Trump’s words about the “semi-routine” nature of the visit, reports of the negotiations indicate that the trip could have touched on several important issues at once: the war against Ukraine, the security of NATO countries, and Russia’s cooperation with Iran.

As a reminder, on the morning of August 25, an American military transport aircraft Boeing C-17 Globemaster III of the US Air Force landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport.
