The Pentagon confirmed that the administration of US President Donald Trump did not include funding for military assistance to Ukraine under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program in the draft defense budget for fiscal year 2027. In the absence of changes from Congress, 2027 could be the first year in a decade without funding for this program.

This is reported by C-Span .

During Senate hearings, Acting Pentagon Finance Director Jules Hurst confirmed the lack of funds for Ukraine in the budget request.

“Yes, that’s right. There is no USAI funding in this budget,” said Jules Gerst.

The Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program has been in operation since 2016 and has been one of the key mechanisms for military support for Ukraine. Through it, the Pentagon ordered new weapons and equipment from manufacturers for Ukrainian needs.

The article notes that the final decision on funding has not yet been made. The draft budget is currently under review, and the US Congress has the right to amend the document and return funding to Ukraine.

It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump plans to address Congress with a proposal for a significant increase in defense spending in the budget . The aim is to increase funding to $1.5 trillion, which would be one of the largest increases in a decade.

Recall that the United States Senate has approved a defense budget bill for fiscal year 2026 in the amount of $925 billion . The document provides for an increase in funding for the Ukraine security assistance program to $500 million. Now the Senate and the House of Representatives must agree on the final text of the bill.
