US President Donald Trump wants to receive specific commitments from Europe in the coming days to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

This was reported by Reuters, citing European diplomats.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has already informed individual capitals about Washington’s expectations after the talks in the US.

NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart confirmed that the United States is waiting for concrete actions to guarantee freedom of navigation in the region.

European diplomats declare their readiness to discuss with the United States measures to restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, but emphasize the lack of prior consultations from Washington.

At the same time, Europe notes that NATO will not participate in a war against Iran, but the allies are ready to seek long-term solutions.

The UK is currently leading a coalition of around 40 countries working on a military and diplomatic plan to protect shipping, but no immediate results are expected.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that about 15 countries could join the initiative.

France emphasizes that a full restoration of traffic through the strait is possible only after agreements are reached between the US and Iran.

At the same time, Italy and the United Kingdom called Iran’s idea of introducing a fee for the passage of ships unacceptable.

European diplomats emphasize that the key task remains to create stable conditions in the region, not just respond to Washington’s demands.

It was previously reported that Iran plans to introduce payment for the transit of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz in cryptocurrency.

Recall that world oil prices continued to rise amid escalating US rhetoric towards Iran and risks to supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
