US President Donald Trump said that some of the American ammunition did not reach Ukraine due to the lack of the necessary aircraft and other equipment for their use.
Trump said this in an interview with TIME.
During the conversation, the US president was asked about reports of a reduction in American weapons stockpiles following the active use of ammunition in hostilities against Iran.
Trump called reports of serious shortages mostly “fake news” and said the US still has plenty of weapons.
At the same time, he acknowledged that stocks of certain types of ammunition are smaller than others.
“We have a little less of some types of munitions than others. We have medium and above-medium munitions – very powerful, more powerful than ever before. There are munitions that President Zelensky did not take, but they are very powerful. He did not take them because he did not have the aircraft and other equipment necessary to use such munitions,” Trump said.
The US president also once again placed responsibility for the stockpile reduction on the Joe Biden administration, stating that it had transferred “a huge amount of ammunition” to Ukraine.
According to Trump, over the past six months, the United States has been actively replenishing its arsenal and increasing production.
He added that Raytheon and other US defense companies are building new facilities and working to increase production capacity, including for Patriot and THAAD.
As a reminder, on September 29, it became known that the US had ordered AMRAAM missiles worth up to $20.7 billion . The contract should help the Pentagon significantly increase production and restore its own stocks.
In addition, on September 19, the US State Department approved the possible sale of air defense equipment and ammunition to Ukraine for approximately $2.68 billion.
