US President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, October 16, gave the first details of his phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The American leader emphasized that the conversation was productive, as well as the fact that Putin congratulated him on the great success in resolving the war in the Middle East. Now the US leader intends to meet with the Kremlin leader in Hungary in order to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Trump reported on his conversation with Putin on his own social network Truth Social . The American leader emphasized that success in the Middle East could be an impetus for ending the war in Ukraine. To this end, he will have a personal meeting with the Russian dictator. It is scheduled for Budapest. Trump did not disclose any details about the time of the personal meeting. It is known that the summit between the American and Russian presidents will be preceded by a meeting of high-level advisers from both sides next week.
“I just finished a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it was a very productive one. President Putin congratulated me and the United States on a great achievement – the establishment of peace in the Middle East, which, as he said, has been dreamed of for centuries. I really believe that success in the Middle East will help us in the negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. President Putin thanked the First Lady, Melania, for her participation in projects related to children. He expressed great gratitude and said that this work will continue. We also paid considerable attention to the issues of trade between Russia and the United States after the end of the war with Ukraine. After the conversation, we agreed to a meeting of our high-level advisors next week. The first meetings on the US side will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with other representatives who will be appointed additionally. The location of the meeting is still being determined. President Putin and I will then meet at an agreed location – in Budapest, Hungary – to try to “to put an end to this ‘shameful’ war between Russia and Ukraine,” the post states.
Trump also confirmed that he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on October 17. In fact, Trump intends to discuss with Zelensky the details of his conversation with Putin.
